Traditional House / Traditional Mamasa
Mamasa District turns out to save a
variety of uniqueness one of which is a traditional house or traditional houses
typical of Mamasa community. Unfortunately Mamasa typical traditional houses
that have similarities with Toraja traditional house today are increasingly
rare, some custom homes can now only be found inland Mamasa district.
Tawalian village, Tawalian subdistrict
of Mamasa regency, is one of the most populous areas still maintaining the
preservation of traditional houses typical of Mamasa. Some traditional houses
in this region still seem to stand strong despite having undergone a
restoration.
In the Mamasa community, Mamasa's
traditional house is divided into four types of levels according to the social
strata of society. The first is the banua layuk or high house that is usually
owned by the adat chairman, the second is banua sura or carving house for the
nobles, the third banua hole or black house for the knights, and the last banua
rapa usually owned by ordinary people.
While the inside of a traditional
Mamasa house that resembles a Toraja house consists of four parts ie the front
or Tado, the middle part is called ba'ba, while the room is called tambing,
while the kitchen is called lombon.
The condition of the area above the
mountains with very cold temperatures, making the structure of Mamasa
traditional house building almost without windows with a very small door, meant
that the indoor temperature remained warm. One of the uniqueness of Mamasa
house is the buffalo horn on display at the front of the house, buffaloes
attached to the house, the higher the social status of homeowners.
