Makassar Culture


      Makassar culture is not much different from the bugis culture. this Makassar tribe is recognized for its culture, where their culture has remained preserved until now and has not been eroded by modernization.

            below are some of the rituals of ceremony and customs of Makassar:
      Accera Kalompoang is a traditional ceremony to clean the heritage objects of Gowa Kingdom that is stored in Balla Lompoa Museum. The essence of this ceremony is the allangiri kalompoang, the cleansing and weighing of salokoa (crown) made in the 14th century. This crown was first used by King Gowa, I Tumanurunga, who was later symbolized in the inauguration of the subsequent Kings of Gowa.



1.     ACCERA KALOMPOANG
            Accera Kalompoang is a traditional ceremony to clean the heritage objects of Gowa Kingdom that is stored in Balla Lompoa Museum. The essence of this ceremony is the allangiri kalompoang, the cleansing and weighing of salokoa (crown) made in the 14th century.             The washing of the royal objects using holy water begins with the reciting of Al-Fatihah letters together by the participants of the ceremony led by Anrong Gurua (Professor). Especially for heirloom weapons such as kris, machetes and spear eyes, the washing is specially treated, ie rubbed with perfume, bamboo sharpener, and lime. The ceremony is not only witnessed by the descendants of the Kings of Gowa, but also by the general public with the requirement to be dressed Makassar custom at the time of the event.



2.     MAPPALILI



            Mappalili is the ceremony of starting the rice planting season in the fields. This ritual is run by Ancient Bugis priests known as bissu. In addition to Pangkep, bissu communities exist in Bone, Soppeng, and Wajo. Ritual led directly A Bissu Puang Matoa.
            Puang Matoa looks so authoritative among the bissu gathered in the house of arajang, the place of heirloom in the form of plowing the rice field. Wear striped shirt with white dominant color, combined with plain white sarong and songkok. A polite and courageous voice always comes out of his mouth. No shouting. As a substitute for his screams, Puang Matoa used the katto-katto, a special club to call boys, and necklaces, the name of a tool to call girls.



Customary Marriage
            The traditional ceremony of Makassar in the wedding ceremony has several processes or stages of traditional ceremonies, among others:

1.  A'jangang-jangang (Ma'manu'-manu ').
2.  A'suro (Massuro) or apply.
3.  A'pa'nassar (Patenreada ') or specify a day.
4.  A'panaiLeko 'Lompo (moaning) or betel nut.

5.  A'barumbung (Mappesau) or steam bath, carried out for 3 (three) days.
6.  Appassili bunting (Cemmemappepaccing) or spray and A'bubbu '(shaved off the            bride's hair).
7.  Akkorontigi (Mappacci) or girlfriend's night.
8.   Assimorong or akadnikah.
9.   Allekka 'bunting (Marolla) or mundumantu.
10. Appa'bajikang pregnant or unites the bride
