Philosophical Personality of Bugis

                  Bugis tribe is one of the famous tribe in Indonesia because its custom is still thick.

               

                The concept of personality bugis people is "siri '". Its meaning is that Bugis people highly uphold their self-esteem. In the saying of the Bugis is said "siri paranreng, life pa lao", which means that if the self-esteem has been tarnished then the life who will be paid. So if there is someone who damages the dignity of others, then bloodshed is the way of completion.

                "Siri na Pacce" is a symbol of group solidarity. Group self-esteem is also the main thing besides self-esteem. Siri word in Bugis language has a sense of shame (self esteem), while Pacce or Pesse means not bear / pity. So the concept of sala na Pacce represents the empathy and solidarity of the group in sharing the self esteem.

 There are 4 siri concepts in bugis:

1. Siri Ripakasiri

           The concept of this series relates to personal and family self-esteem. This one series is an abstinence siri to be broken, because the stakes are life. Family members who destroy family honor, can be taken his life by other family members.

2. Siri Mappakasiri series

       This one series relates to the work ethic. There is a saying of the bugis who says "Narekko degaga siri mu, inrengko siri." That is, if you have no shame then borrow to people who still have shyness (Siri '). And vice versa, "Narekko ka siri'mu, aja 'mumapakasiri'-series." That is, if you have shame then do not embarrass (embarrassing). This concept encourages Bugis tribe people always keep the behavior of work so as not to make self-esteem to come down.

3. Siri Tappela Siri (Teddeng Siri)

        That is the shame of someone who is lost for something. Suppose someone who has made a deal or a promise with others then he can not keep his agreement or promise, then he is said to have lost self-esteem. Or in other words he was embarrassing himself.

4. Siri Mate Siri

       Ie shame associated with one's faith. For the Bugis tribe people who already mate his series or have died shame then people like this is no longer the price. People who have died this self-esteem is commonly said to be like a dead carcass.
